More than 1,000 parliamentary civil servants work in the Senate's offices in the Luxembourg Palace and its other buildings as well as in its park, the Luxembourg Gardens .
These staff members ensure smooth performance of the law-making process. They are responsible for printing parliamentary documents, reports and other material. They provide secretarial assistance for the standing committees and the senators who preside over sittings. They also keep records of the debates. They provide internal and external communication services and technological support.
The parliamentary civil servants are responsible for the efficient operation of the Senate, including its security, finances and accounts, for maintenance of its garden space, furniture and equipment, and for provision of food and transport.
Each senator receives a monthly sum to recruit up to three parliamentary assistants to help him fulfil his duties both at the Senate and in his constituency.
