The Speaker of the Senate chairs its Managing Committee, a body of 25 Senators who take all major decisions involving the workings of the Senate. Each Committee member is entrusted with a specific task.
- The 8 deputy speakers stand in for the Speaker, principally by presiding over public sittings of the Senate;
- The 3 Questeurs - a name borrowed from the Quaestores in the Senate of Ancient Rome - are Senators responsible for the management and administration of the Senate;
- The 14 secretaries supervise and verify the conformity of votes taken in public sitting.
Its members are elected for a three year term after each renewal of the Senate membership.
